Camp Steel has recently updated their fleet of vehicles with the purchase of the latest Euro 6 engine to meet the upcoming Clean Air Zone requirements for Birmingham. Originally planned to be introduced in 2020 the launch date has been postponed until 2021 in response to the impact of Covid-19, meaning Camp Steel is now ready well in advance of the legislation.

Located just outside of the Clean Air Zone, Camp Steel has many customers within the city centre itself and must therefore comply with the regulation or face daily fines for driving through this area so Managing Director Jon Ratledge made the decision to invest in a new vehicle that was compliant with the impending requirements.

The vehicle was purchased from Greenhous Commercials in Willenhall , one of the leading retailers of DAF Trucks in the UK. Presenting the keys to Jon, Stuart Gaunt  congratulated him on the purchase of the vehicle adding “Hopefully this is the beginning of a strong relationship between both companies as Jon is looking to put another Clean Air Zone compliant vehicle into the Tamworth depot very soon.”

Jon said “We are delighted to have purchased from Greenhaus who offer quality vehicles with bespoke bodies at keen prices and we are looking to add to our fleet later this year. We have also taken out a competitive seven year service and maintenance deal to regulate costs and avoid large unexpected bills.”

The new lorry  is a DAF FA LF 210 12t day cab with Fred Smith 25’ 4” platform body & rear detachable gantry and additional features such as the rear cab window, Truck Navigation radio, 210bhp Euro 6 engine and 6 speed AS Tronic automatic gearbox. It also included a Spillards 4 way camera system with n/s/f proximity sensors and a turn left alarm.

Driver Vic Nash  who has driven various vehicles for Camp Steel during the 14 years he has been with the company is delighted with his new lorry and says it’s a dream to drive! Vic said ‘The cab is so comfortable which is important when you’re in it all day long and it is low and compact for easy access to tight delivery points. However the biggest difference is the addition of cameras which give me clear all round vision from the cab. This is absolutely fantastic and makes it much easier to manoeuvre a large vehicle through a busy city centre!’
